Have you noticed the new group product photo on the Profile website? This year marks the 25th anniversary of a magazine image that showed off Profile’s capabilities. Our new picture celebrates the changes in our business and growing capabilities while still holding the qualities we demonstrated back at the arrival of the new millennium.

Imaging the original story

For Thermoforming Quarterly magazine’s first issue of 2001, author David Davoust interviewed Profile then-owner Steve Murrill. “Pressure Forming with Style and Volume!” became the cover article.

The discussion focused on how we used pressure forming with quality control to deliver high volume production for OEMs. At the time, the industry normally could provide up to 1,000 acceptable parts to customers. Profile’s methods permitted runs up to 10,000.

Tight quality systems and continuous communications were key to repeatability that satisfied customer needs. The superior surface aesthetics possible with pressure forming also played a role in the success and acceptance of the process.

The editorial photo for the cover included a range of part samples. The product group cut across industries, sizes, and techniques. Many of them were award winners. Over time, that photo became a cornerstone of our marketing, appearing on our website, literature, and on our office wall.

New photo tells today’s story

Side-by-side comparison of two groups of thermoformed products, 1 from 2001 and 1 from 2026. Each side shows assorted large rectangular panels, vented covers, and smaller brackets and casings produced by Profile Plastics, arranged like a product lineup.

It’s a quarter century since that photo and article were published. The new image features a setup like the earlier one, but showcases new parts, new industries, and new techniques.

With one conspicuous exception.

The air plenum enclosure seen on the right side has been in continuous production since 1983. This was our first volume pressure formed part, and it won our first competition award in 1986. Tens of thousands of parts have been formed since then, but the design remains almost identical to the original. Profile’s parts have won more than 40 awards since then.

The other parts shown in the new picture highlight some of the special processes we developed over the last 50 years. These include distortion forming, detailed CNC trimming, and twin sheet forming special materials. Different markets are also highlighted by this group: material handling, food and beverage, industrial, and medical devices.

Looking forward

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Our celebration image demonstrates the continuity between the past, present, and future of thermoforming. At Profile, we remain committed to delivering high quality OEM parts with style and volume.
