Profile Plastics Wins Two More SPE Thermoforming Division Awards

Lake Bluff, IL – December 1, 2023 – Profile Plastics has earned two more awards from the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Thermoforming Division. The heavy-gauge thermoformer won the People’s Choice award and the Pressure Forming-Gold award for its Covers for Medical Part Product Application, which is made of 0.187” PVC/Acrylic (KYDEX T) and uses molded-in color.

The SPE Thermoforming Division presented both awards during its biennial parts competition, which was held from October 23-26 in Cleveland, Ohio. Profile Plastics now holds 42 awards from the SPE, a worldwide professional organization for members of the plastics industry.

“The awards we earned this year are a major honor for an important project”, said Garret Smith, Key Account Sales Manager at Profile Plastics. “Medical technical companies need equipment covers, and plastic pressure forming can achieve the form, fit, and function that’s required”.

The project began when one of the world’s leading medical technology companies asked Profile Plastics to participate in designing a new and innovative cart-style waste management system. By helping this long-time customer make key decisions, the pressure former addressed challenges that included designing a durable yet easily removable part with highly cosmetic and functional features.

Profile Plastics also helped with material selection and used temperature-controlled, precision-machined aluminum tools, many with pneumatic actuators, that were acid etched to provide texture. The flat cover atop the medical waste system provides personnel with a convenient work surface. The side walls have a snap cap, and the unit’s circular door has a rib-like structure on a tab that works like a lock.
